It was a cute little kitten in a Christmas stocking. Over the years, I have switched back and forth between pre-packaged kits and kitting up my own project using a purchased pattern. Here are my thoughts on the pros and cons of each option.<span></span></p><a name='more'></a><p></p><p><i style="background-color: white; color: #535353; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: small;">This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for supporting my blog!</i></p><p><span style="color: #e06666; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Pros of Putting Together Your Own Cross-Stitch Kit with a Purchased Pattern...</b></span></p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Personalization:</b></span> </p><p>Years ago, country themed patterns were the main options when selecting a pattern to. There are so many more options now! Modern, Floral, Animals, Christmas, Halloween, Fall, etc. When you choose your own <a href="https://amzn.to/48g2gdK" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">pattern</a>, you have the freedom to select one that fits your style and interests, allowing for a more personalized finished product.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Choosing Your Own Materials:</b></span> </p><p>You can handpick the <a href="https://amzn.to/48ee7Jf" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">fabric</a> (brand, size, and color), <a href="https://amzn.to/45OJQ2g" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">floss colors</a>, and other materials. This will ensure that you will be using your favorite brands and the supplies will meet your quality standards.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Cost Control:</b></span> </p><p>By choosing your own materials separately, you will have more control over your budget. You can opt for affordable or premium fabric and floss based on your preferences and budget.</p><p><span style="color: #e06666; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Cons of Putting Together Your Own Cross-Stitch Kit with a Purchased Pattern...</b></span></p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Your Time:</b></span> </p><p>Gathering materials individually can be a bit time-consuming. You will need to gather all of your <a href="https://amzn.to/45OJQ2g" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">floss colors</a> needed for the pattern, your choice of fabric as well as your other supplies. If you don't have all the floss colors or the correct size of fabric, you will need to order it online or go to your local craft store which can take a bit more time.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Potential Overwhelming Choices:</b></span> </p><p>The abundance of options for <a href="https://amzn.to/48ee7Jf" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">fabric</a>, thread, and other supplies can be overwhelming. You will need the correct amount of fabric, the correct size of fabric and there are other choices such as the brand and color. The options for thread are extensive. My favorite brand is <a href="https://amzn.to/45OJQ2g" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">DMC</a>, but there are many others to choose from as well as the type of thread.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Risk of Mistakes:</b></span> </p><p>Choosing the incorrect materials may lead to mistakes, such as selecting the wrong fabric size or count, which can impact the final result.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Storage Challenges:</b></span> </p><p>As you accumulate different supplies for your projects, storage can become an issue, particularly if you have limited space. You will need storage for your threads, fabric, patterns and other supplies such as <a href="https://amzn.to/3ZhvpRL" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">hoops</a>, <a href="https://amzn.to/3PC1GzJ" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">needle minders</a>, <a href="https://amzn.to/3RjcWCg" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">scissors</a>, etc.</p><p><span style="color: #e06666; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Pros of Using a Purchased Cross-Stitch Kit...</b></span></p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Convenience:</b></span> </p><p><a href="<a target="_blank" href="https://www.amazon.com/s?k=counted+cross+stitch+kits&amp;s=relevanceblender&amp;crid=1TI6KZXOGUWNJ&amp;qid=1694562674&amp;sprefix=counted+cross+stitch+kit%252Caps%252C299&amp;ref=sr_st_relevanceblender&amp;ds=v1%253AEFqi5B2vsEkCD377G%252FK7ZeiCw%252BZvp9LpcNkyefVaKaw&_encoding=UTF8&tag=angelasgiftno-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=7821f8bc20146544a3ce6647c29ee42b&camp=1789&creative=9325">Cross Stitch Kits</a>" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pre-packaged Cross Stitch kits</a> have pretty much everything you need to complete your project. The only other supplies you will need is a <a href="https://amzn.to/3EDZm4U" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">hoop</a> or <a href="https://amzn.to/45Lpy9K" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">q-snap</a> and <a href="https://amzn.to/3LnAP7Y" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">scissors</a>. This will save time and effort in gathering materials.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Guidance:</b></span> </p><p>Kits will come with clear instructions on how to stitch the project as well as the chart which makes it easier for beginners to start their cross stitch journey. </p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Variety:</b></span> </p><p>There is a decent variety of <a href="https://amzn.to/3Ze9IlI" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Cross Stitch kits</a> available. You will be sure to find something that will suite your tastes and preferences.</p><p><span style="color: #e06666; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Cons of Using a Purchased Cross-Stitch Kit...</b></span></p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Cost:</b></span> </p><p>Some <a href="<a target="_blank" href="https://www.amazon.com/s?k=counted+cross+stitch+kits&amp;s=relevanceblender&amp;crid=1TI6KZXOGUWNJ&amp;qid=1694562674&amp;sprefix=counted+cross+stitch+kit%252Caps%252C299&amp;ref=sr_st_relevanceblender&amp;ds=v1%253AEFqi5B2vsEkCD377G%252FK7ZeiCw%252BZvp9LpcNkyefVaKaw&_encoding=UTF8&tag=angelasgiftno-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=7821f8bc20146544a3ce6647c29ee42b&camp=1789&creative=9325">Cross Stitch Kits</a>" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">pre-packaged kits</a> can be quite costly. Especially, if they contain premium materials or are larger kits. </p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Creativity Limitations:</b></span> </p><p>Using a kit can limit your creative freedom since you will be using the materials that are provided. </p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Having Enough Thread:</b></span> </p><p>There are times, when a kit ends up not having enough thread to finish the project. You would need to find an exact match to the thread in order to complete your piece. This could be hard to do since most kits do not include the brand of thread that is included.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Thread Quality:</b></span> </p><p>There is the possibility that the thread included in the kit will not be a good quality brand. I have worked on kits where I've had issues with the thread breaking and this can be frustrating.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Using the Fabric that Comes with the Kit:</b></span> </p><p>There may be times when the fabric that is included with the kit is not to your liking. Maybe the fabric is too stiff or isn't the size you prefer, you may need to make adjustments and purchase a different brand of fabric or size.</p><p>Ultimately, deciding to use a pre-packaged kit or kitting up your own project depends on individual preferences and project goals. The best thing to do is weigh the pros and cons to make a decision that best suits your needs.</p><p>Happy Stitching!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx6dANlXcp756yAOY8PW64O6WM4q_M-Gg-q37VQeEj-TQNzgI6huqlF7I-a_gAbYshUoAUJC8QsOF4mZOq0-6ASolMC62DocEfQsIf1A3fJVYDtofZzMsSOTesysWHP6s_7wqUCDIvByxsEcH5soN40-ikzohI6Ex_lhyC_pKkBWAmXQJ2x9pMLKfDlAs/s975/Cross-Stitch-Kit-Pros-Cons-Pin.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Cross Stitch Kits: Pros and Cons" border="0" data-original-height="975" data-original-width="650" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx6dANlXcp756yAOY8PW64O6WM4q_M-Gg-q37VQeEj-TQNzgI6huqlF7I-a_gAbYshUoAUJC8QsOF4mZOq0-6ASolMC62DocEfQsIf1A3fJVYDtofZzMsSOTesysWHP6s_7wqUCDIvByxsEcH5soN40-ikzohI6Ex_lhyC_pKkBWAmXQJ2x9pMLKfDlAs/w266-h400/Cross-Stitch-Kit-Pros-Cons-Pin.jpg" title="Cross Stitch Kits: Pros and Cons" width="266" /></a></div><p><br /></p>Angela Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10258943256528580544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2370168977445686038.post-18710355167154288352023-09-07T14:52:00.000-05:002023-09-07T14:52:25.969-05:00Where to Find Affordable Frames for Your Cross Stitch Projects<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnXgx-LQAEpe-ahb1Bkrv-ORBw0FiTS-Oy-mw3L08ilZCR2vrCg4762FdayviR_Ljhe0alk2OF8XttoCBzheBqwVD9t8NYZzc0agqajEe-cGlS1yQwPnV0gsZLfDbuuQBYOkqgdJEgpGHOcRRV6V8velIwebQ519pNu65epLy8dNy37ioUFzjNBfClKPg/s650/find-affordable-frames-cross-stitch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Find Affordable Frames for Your Cross Stitch Projects" border="0" data-original-height="366" data-original-width="650" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnXgx-LQAEpe-ahb1Bkrv-ORBw0FiTS-Oy-mw3L08ilZCR2vrCg4762FdayviR_Ljhe0alk2OF8XttoCBzheBqwVD9t8NYZzc0agqajEe-cGlS1yQwPnV0gsZLfDbuuQBYOkqgdJEgpGHOcRRV6V8velIwebQ519pNu65epLy8dNy37ioUFzjNBfClKPg/w640-h360/find-affordable-frames-cross-stitch.jpg" title="Find Affordable Frames for Your Cross Stitch Projects" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>Decorating your home with your cherished Cross Stitch pieces doesn't have to break the bank. Thank you for supporting my blog!</i></p><p></p><p><b style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: x-large;">Thrift Stores</b></p><p>Thrift stores are a treasure trove of hidden gems. They can be a fantastic source for affordable picture frames that come in various styles and sizes. You can find vintage, contemporary and even modern style frames. Thrift stores can be a great place to find distinctive designs to add character to your home decor. The best part is that you may only pay a fraction of the original price!</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Flea Markets</b></span></p><p>Flea markets are another excellent resource for affordable picture frames. Since flea markets often have vendors selling a wide array of items, you are likely to find vintage, eclectic, or ornate frames with character or simple, rustic options. You can also negotiate prices with most sellers to get a lower price.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Yard Sales</b></span></p><p>Yard Sales are a great place to find gently used or even brand-new frames for a fraction of the original price. Since most yard sales are held by individuals looking to declutter their homes and sell their unwanted items, you may be able to negotiate a cheaper price. Arriving early can help you snag great items, but some sellers may be more willing to negotiate towards the end of the day.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Dollar Stores</b></span></p><p>While some Dollar Store frames may not be the most high-quality, they can definitely serve their purpose and allow you to frame your favorite pieces while saving money. Most dollar store frames come in standard sizes, but they have come a long way and do offer some pretty nice frames.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Amazon</b></span></p><p>Amazon offers an extensive range of <a href="https://amzn.to/3R8KyD1" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">picture frames</a> at various prices. You can compare prices, read product reviews, and choose frames that suit your style, size, material and budget. If you're a Prime member, you may be eligible for free or expedited shipping on some items.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Walmart</b></span></p><p>Walmart has a wide variety of affordable <a href="https://mavely.app.link/e/GjBfZANjUCb" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">picture frames</a>. Whether you're looking for simple, modern frames or something more decorative, Walmart is definitely worth checking out. You can find classic to contemporary styles as well as materials such as wood, metal and plastic. Since Walmart has competitive pricing, this means you can often find frames to fit your budget.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>eBay</b></span></p><p>eBay is another great place to find a wide variety of frames. When searching for frames on eBay, you can narrow down your results by adding keywords such as the type of material you're looking for, the color, size and style. Be sure to review seller ratings so you can gain insights into the seller's reliability and the quality of frames sold.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Antique Stores</b></span></p><p>Much like thrift stores, Antique stores are an excellent resource to find unique and often one-of-a-kind frames. You may discover frames with historical significance and unique craftsmanship. Often times, these frames will have character and charm that mass-produced frames don't. You can also ask the store owners and staff any questions about the frames you are interested in to see if they have information on the history of the frame. Antique stores carry frames in various shapes and sizes that aren't usually standard sizes, so this may be a great place to find frames that are larger or have odd measurements.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Retail and Craft Stores</b></span></p><p>Another option is to check for sales and mark downs at stores such as Hobby Lobby, Home Goods, <a href="https://mavely.app.link/e/r0hsEyWjUCb" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Michaels</a>, Ross Dress for Less, Marshalls and Burlington.</p><p>Finding affordable picture frames doesn't mean you will be sacrificing style or quality. From thrift stores and flea markets to dollar stores, online marketplaces, and antique shops, there are numerous options for affordable frames to showcase your beautiful finished pieces. </p><p>Happy framing!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnSXkMZKL2jL8q1WRpQilV6VboLL9nHY6tppD-NFXpPTRyda43h2X13pLuGFZHZnpchpfI5EGeSOA4h0kVhKxIEgjUcVeNI9oLv-fGhkIdsd4zFJeiljcKWw62Or8wUUSE-OGPBr9ZMiQ70pNe5_cNXPJNPzu8NiWBvA79_vxqSLid0EP6GVIkOeYDfc4/s1500/find-affordable-frames-cross-stitch-projects.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Where to Find Affordable Frames for Your Cross Stitch Projects" border="0" data-original-height="1500" data-original-width="1000" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnSXkMZKL2jL8q1WRpQilV6VboLL9nHY6tppD-NFXpPTRyda43h2X13pLuGFZHZnpchpfI5EGeSOA4h0kVhKxIEgjUcVeNI9oLv-fGhkIdsd4zFJeiljcKWw62Or8wUUSE-OGPBr9ZMiQ70pNe5_cNXPJNPzu8NiWBvA79_vxqSLid0EP6GVIkOeYDfc4/w266-h400/find-affordable-frames-cross-stitch-projects.png" title="Where to Find Affordable Frames for Your Cross Stitch Projects" width="266" /></a></div><br /><p>Supplies you may need for framing...</p><div><br /></div><p></p>

In my case, it's definitely true. I struggle with anxiety and Cross Stitching helps me to relax and stop my overthinking. It can be a very therapeutic activity.<span></span></p><a name='more'></a><p></p><p><i style="background-color: white; color: #535353; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: small;">This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for supporting my blog!</i></p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Focus and Engaged</b></span></p><p>Cross-stitching requires you to focus your attention on the current moment. As you guide your needle through the fabric and create each stitch, your mind becomes focused on the current task. This helps to redirect your thoughts away from stress and anxiety which promotes a sense of calmness.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Mindful Movement</b></span></p><p>Since Cross stitching involves a repetitive motion it can create a state of mindfulness. When you're fully concentrating on your project, as you stitch, your body will automatically start to relax.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Expressing Yourself Creatively</b></span></p><p>Engaging in a creative hobby like Cross Stitch will allow you to express yourself artistically. As you're working on each project, especially when you've completed a pattern, you will have a sense of ownership over your work. This would foster a positive emotion because you are working on something that brings you happiness and joy.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Reducing Stress</b></span></p><p>The act of stitching, especially working on counted Cross Stitch and seeing each design take shape can be very soothing. This can trigger your body to relax and reduce stress.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Distraction from Negative Thoughts</b></span></p><p>I'm a huge overthinker! When I work on a project it proves a distraction from all the thoughts running through my head. I'm no longer thinking about the worst-case scenario or worrying over things that I need to take care of. I'm able to concentrate and relax.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Creates a Sense of Accomplishment</b></span></p><p>Even if you only complete a small section of your Cross Stitch project each day, it will give you a sense of achievement. This also helps with stress and anxiety because you feel like you've accomplished something for the day. I have definitely seen a difference in my mood when I have taken the time to do a bit of stitching.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Cross Stitch is Portable and Flexible</b></span></p><p>Cross Stitch can be done almost anywhere. I've seen ladies post pictures of them stitching on a beach, on their back patio while enjoying the sunlight, on a train, and even while in church. You can easily toss your project into a <a href="https://amzn.to/3E02yrc" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">bag</a> and carry it with you wherever you go.</p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>Sense of Control</b></span></p><p>Anxiety and stress can make you feel like you're lacking a sense of self-control. I enjoy <a href="https://amzn.to/44FBdq6" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">kits</a> because there is no digging around for thread and the correct size fabric, but sometimes the kits may not have the best thread. <a href="https://amzn.to/3q7Zzdc" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pattern Books</a> are great because you receive multiple patterns that you can kit up yourself and switch up the thread colors if you like. font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>1. Sell Your Completed Pieces</b></span></p><p>You can sell your completed pieces on Ebay, Etsy, your own website or by starting a Facebook page. Keep in mind there are some designers that do not allow you to sell completed Cross Stitch and you will need to contact the designer or publisher just to make sure that you have permission.</p><p>When listing your item for sale, you want to include information such as the size of the design area, the stitch count, the type of fabric it is stitched on, how many hours it took to stitch, the designer/publisher, if the item will be framed, washed, ironed and how it will be shipped.</p><p><br /></p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>2. Cross Stitch for Commissions</b></span></p><p>You can charge for your time by cents per stitch or per hour. You can have the customer purchase the supplies or charge extra for the cost of supplies. By setting up your own website or Facebook page, you can offer your services to family, friends and new customers. If you decide to offer commission based services, I would recommend getting at least half of your fee up front.</p><p><br /></p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>3. Start a Cross Stitch Supplies Business</b></span></p><p>There are a few ways to do this. You can shop sales online, local garage sales, thrift stores or purchase supplies wholesale. Check out your local Facebook Marketplace for Cross Stitch items. Garage sales and thrift stores are also a good way to find items. There are also many online designers and companies that offer cross stitch items at wholesale prices to resale.</p><p>Setting up a website or Facebook page is a good way to offer your supplies or you can sell them directly on Etsy or Ebay.</p><p><br /></p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>4. Start a Blog.</b></span></p><p>You can start a blog where you share your favorite designers, Cross Stitch tips or projects you are working on. Add affiliate links to your blog to earn commissions from places such as Etsy, Amazon or Shareasale. You can do this by promoting individual products, banner ads or text links to products you have used.</p><p><br /></p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: courier; font-size: large;"><b>5. Design and Sale Your Own Patterns</b></span></p><p>There are a few companies that offer software to design your own patterns that you can then sell online. Thank you for supporting my blog!</i></p><p>A <a href="https://amzn.to/33o1UC2" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">needle minder</a> is a decorative piece made out of wood, clay, metal or even resin that holds your needle in place with a magnet while you are switching threads or taking a break. I use to stab my needle in my fabric temporarily or stick it through my shirt which is never a good idea since they can be lost so easily.</p><p><span style="color: #45818e; font-family: courier; font-size: x-large;"><b>How do you use a needle minder?</b></span></p><p>A needle minder consists of two pieces. The decorative piece is attached to one magnet and it attaches to another magnet that is placed on the other side of your fabric. Simply rest your needle on the minder and it will stay in place for you until you are ready to use it again.</p><p>Now, I don't trust myself all that much and I'm afraid of losing my needle once I'm finished stitching for the day, so I will remove my needle from the needle minder and place it though my felt piece that I use for my Q-Snap, on the edge of my fabric where the design will not be stitched, or in a needle box.</p><p><span style="color: #45818e; font-family: courier; font-size: x-large;"><b>Needle minders can be dangerous!</b></span></p><p>Only because they're so addicting! I've seen cats, dogs, flowers, butterflies, gnomes, cupcakes, hearts, scrabble pieces, food... the designs are endless and fantastic!</p><p>If I had the room to store them, I would have a huge collection!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdBDggrdDSCtzk6SuXMzjnOqJKgaGSynRJXcOvZkW3U9r8o5zNuGpPx0KNe_1gItt_lZHwMbQUqfyQNLXfLZghQgThc4ehddxBmfwd57h0-x3x7p9uh5ZcG04Ge4hyphenhyphenx1EO0h7UzOTlWHs/s900/using-a-needle-minder-for-cross-stitch.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Using a Needle Minder for Cross Stitch" border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="600" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdBDggrdDSCtzk6SuXMzjnOqJKgaGSynRJXcOvZkW3U9r8o5zNuGpPx0KNe_1gItt_lZHwMbQUqfyQNLXfLZghQgThc4ehddxBmfwd57h0-x3x7p9uh5ZcG04Ge4hyphenhyphenx1EO0h7UzOTlWHs/w266-h400/using-a-needle-minder-for-cross-stitch.jpg" title="Using a Needle Minder for Cross Stitch" width="266" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>

It didn't matter how much I ironed, they just wouldn't budge and I could see them after framing.<p></p><p>At first, I was intimidated by the q-snap frame because I had used a hoop for so many years, but I wanted to at least try it and I absolutely love it!</p><p>I would definitely recommend purchasing the brand Q-Snap and not an off brand because I have read complaints that the clamps on off brand frames become loose and won't hold the fabric tight enough after a while.</p><p>When I first started using this frame, I did have figure out the best way to tighten the fabric and how to hold it so I wanted to share with you a few of my tips and what has worked best for me.</p><p><i style="background-color: white; color: #535353; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: small;">This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for supporting my blog!</i></p><p><span style="color: #45818e; font-family: courier; font-size: x-large;"><b>How to attach and remove your fabric.</b></span></p><p>I start by laying the <a href="https://amzn.to/3kQfofR" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Q-Snap</a> frame on my lap or a flat surface and placing my fabric on top of the frame.</p><p>Next, I will place a piece of <a href="https://amzn.to/2UNg9eY" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">felt</a> on top of my fabric on the right side and push on the clamp.</p><p>To tighten the fabric, I place my thumbs under the felt and push the edge of the clamp to help rotate the clamp until the fabric is as tight as I would like.</p><p>Once my right clamp is in place, I attach the left, top and bottom clamp the same way always making sure to tighten each side of fabric as I go. You can always push/roll the clamps a bit to tighten the fabric more as you work if it becomes slightly loose.</p><p>When I first started using this frame, I struggled with getting the clamps to move when I was attaching my fabric and pulling the clamps off because they are pretty tight on the frame once the fabric is in place. After I started using felt under the clamps it made it a lot easier to move the clamps since I use the felt to move them. Using felt with the Q-Snap will also help protect your stitches.</p><p>To remove your <a href="https://amzn.to/2HkwjcE" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">fabric</a> from the frame, turn over the Q-snap to the back of your project and push the clamp from under the felt to detach the clamp.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFyAB2tUpMGDy3AtHsSJZYWczmRvi7otewQlg5iwwQoduFqlE1efIL6bkiouHlqzT7HFvJqrG0ch3fXywvYSdFP-cxhYyWnIiDWsnpSFXSu9GxhH6zJQxBQu9N4YmbUUYb5SgnoIbORFI/s1141/how-to-use-a-qsnap-for-cross-stitch-steps.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Using a Q-Snap Steps" border="0" data-original-height="1141" data-original-width="650" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFyAB2tUpMGDy3AtHsSJZYWczmRvi7otewQlg5iwwQoduFqlE1efIL6bkiouHlqzT7HFvJqrG0ch3fXywvYSdFP-cxhYyWnIiDWsnpSFXSu9GxhH6zJQxBQu9N4YmbUUYb5SgnoIbORFI/s16000/how-to-use-a-qsnap-for-cross-stitch-steps.jpg" title="Using a Q-Snap Steps" /></a></div><p><b style="color: #45818e; font-family: courier; font-size: xx-large;">How I hold my Q-snap.</b></p><p>There are a few people that have mentioned they have a hard time holding the q-snap in their hand due to the bulkiness and weight. I have found that if I have one hand underneath the back of my project instead of trying to hold the frame with my hand, it's easier for me to use. You could also use a stand to hold the Q-Snap while you are stitching such as the <a href="https://amzn.to/3fhszW3" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Lowry stand</a>.</p><p><span style="color: #45818e; font-family: courier; font-size: x-large;"><b>Are there really no wrinkles or creases?</b></span></p><p>The only wrinkles I have had on my projects since switching to a <a href="https://amzn.to/3kQfofR" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Q-Snap frame</a> is the original wrinkles that are in the fabric from packaging or where I have gathered the edges of my fabric while I'm stitching. But, I have never had this frame cause wrinkles on the main area of my projects. I do recommend always removing the frame once you are done stitching for the day to prevent permanent creases that may not be easily removed. I have found that by removing the frame every time, any creases that have formed will usually fall out or be easily removed by ironing.</p><p><span style="color: #45818e; font-family: courier; font-size: x-large;"><b>What do you do with the extra fabric that's hanging out from the frame?</b></span></p><p>Personally, I pull the extra fabric away from my stitching area and clip it with what I have on hand which is <a href="https://amzn.to/35Nh5qa" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">binder clips</a>. There is also the option of using <a href="https://amzn.to/3fhsHov" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Wonder Clips</a> or a <a href="https://amzn.to/2KwB845" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Grime Guard</a>. Design by: The MacNeil Studio<div>Published by: Dimensions</div><div>Finished Size: 12" x 12"</div><div>Stitched on: 18 Count Aida</div><div>Kit comes with Aida, needles, thread, pattern and instructions.</div><div><br /></div><div><i style="background-color: white; color: #535353; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: small;">This post contains affiliate links. Read the full disclosure <a href="https://www.astitchofblissfulness.com/p/disclosure.html" style="color: #0eb6f2; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank">here</a>. Thank you for supporting my blog!</i></div><div><br /></div><div>Due to this kit being stitched on 18 Count Aida, I had a hard time most of the way through. I also struggled with the size of the symbols on the pattern. I always use a <a href="https://amzn.to/36zNgIL" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">light</a> when I'm stitching and it helped a bit, but I even tried reading glasses! Sadly, those didn't help either. I don't know if my eyes are just tired when I was stitching this piece or if I really need glasses.</div><div><br /></div><div>On a few areas of the pattern, I had to take pictures with my phone and <a href="https://amzn.to/3lwSfA7" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">tablet</a> so that I could zoom in to see the symbols. Yikes! Especially on the french knots that are stitched throughout the flowers. These were particularly hard for me to see.</div><div><br /></div><div>This kit came with two needles and I broke both of them while working on the half stitches that use three strands of thread. Pulling three strands of thread through 18 count Aida... whew!... my hands were hurting!</div><div><br /></div><div>One of the great things about this kit is that there was plenty of thread. In fact, there was so much left over that I felt as if I missed stitching something.</div><div><br /></div><div>Overall, I would stitch this piece again because my favorite thing about this piece is that I will always be reminded of our Morris when I look at it. Sadly, he passed away in August of this year not too long after I had finished this piece. I'm happy that I will always have this as a reminder of him.</div><div><br /></div><div>Here is before I added the backstitching and french knots...</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWUhHfC4BOhsMcJ8FTDDIacc7HTzwbbGRdb-pjM1PpnPPywmyhPRfUGpXEFyKD3xXxQCpFwdpas-SMmnzF5BFc-1sBXmcnGxBvHT7Ri3B7oiuxzsUCgnw5pKg8E-EgcbL-T8CnbcXV0y8/s665/kitten-in-the-window-cross-stitch-before-backstitch.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Kitten in the Window Before" border="0" data-original-height="665" data-original-width="650" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWUhHfC4BOhsMcJ8FTDDIacc7HTzwbbGRdb-pjM1PpnPPywmyhPRfUGpXEFyKD3xXxQCpFwdpas-SMmnzF5BFc-1sBXmcnGxBvHT7Ri3B7oiuxzsUCgnw5pKg8E-EgcbL-T8CnbcXV0y8/w626-h640/kitten-in-the-window-cross-stitch-before-backstitch.jpg" title="Kitten in the Window Before" width="626" /></a></div><br /><div>And here are a few close up pictures...</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguHUlLzaLW8jdooKPpY-9PwWkQFea1kCe3WlXG2Fbcg97EpoAy10pnC9WKmb70yaehTlVZeqAYJGq8vpH7_1Zep9vxZioESOw7Wl7_ib1ZRh1wrjT7YjGAZx0-3wrY16N4RgWoh-BNAOE/s685/kitten-in-the-window-cross-stitch-close+%25281%2529.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Kitten in the Window Cross Stitch Up Close" border="0" data-original-height="685" data-original-width="650" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguHUlLzaLW8jdooKPpY-9PwWkQFea1kCe3WlXG2Fbcg97EpoAy10pnC9WKmb70yaehTlVZeqAYJGq8vpH7_1Zep9vxZioESOw7Wl7_ib1ZRh1wrjT7YjGAZx0-3wrY16N4RgWoh-BNAOE/w608-h640/kitten-in-the-window-cross-stitch-close+%25281%2529.jpg" title="Kitten in the Window Cross Stitch Up Close" width="608" /></a></div><br /><div>If you are interested in purchasing this kit, you can find it <a href="https://amzn.to/3lBRd6c" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here</a> on Amazon. And I didn't really care for my french knots. My french knots turn out much better when I use two strands, but the instructions called for using one strand. I may go back and fix those at some point.</p><p>It felt as if I was close to running out of thread for a couple of colors, but I did have enough to complete the piece. There is one thing that I was a bit confused on when it came to the thread color used for one of the flowers. The flower that is located at the top of the teapot between the two larger flowers was a bit different in color from the image shown in the kit. It blended nicely once completed, but I'm not sure why the thread color was different.</p><p>Here are a few close up pictures of the completed piece...</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj31RS7M4kBu1hi8p6e1YDkp0-Gi70zEXB4HIBZkANDjNBxnggJGUseTO4rtGHMoFHt1QrDtvlBL0O8yZ_jRKRuPQkkfVXwNh_mbK-lv-IIa9sJQvONlxRZAdjs4snVsCKQVpITmoLKM7c/s650/blooming-teapot-cross-stitch-close.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Blooming Teapot Cross Stitch Up Close" border="0" data-original-height="597" data-original-width="650" height="588" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj31RS7M4kBu1hi8p6e1YDkp0-Gi70zEXB4HIBZkANDjNBxnggJGUseTO4rtGHMoFHt1QrDtvlBL0O8yZ_jRKRuPQkkfVXwNh_mbK-lv-IIa9sJQvONlxRZAdjs4snVsCKQVpITmoLKM7c/w640-h588/blooming-teapot-cross-stitch-close.jpg" title="Blooming Teapot Cross Stitch Up Close" width="640" /></a></div><p>If you are interested in purchasing this kit, I have seen it on <a href="https://www.ebay.com/itm/Zweigart-Artiste-BLOOMING-TEAPOT-Cross-Stitch-Kit-Kooler-Design-Studios-/233641953127" target="_blank">eBay</a> for a reasonable price. However, I did have a few issues with the thread supplied with this kit. There is one thing though....This pattern did have six symbols that combined two colors (which is not my favorite). For example, the star symbol combined one thread of maroon and 1 of black.
